I agree. Not only should we be able to customize the color of edges (vertices too) but also increase their thickness like we can with vertices (via the viewport parameters in the preferences menu).
Two sides of the same coin I think:

Making it optional would be a better idea. It closes on me randomly as well, similar to what christian weckmann mentioned below. The inability to customize the icons in the Quick Access Toolbar is very annoying as well, unless you like lots of identical generic icons side by side, each with a different function. I know I can add them to my ribbon first, which does allow me to set a 12x12 icon for it, then add it to the QAT from there but this is also annoying because you can't change it's position once added, plus you end up with a button in your ribbon that you probably don't want there. This leaves regular toolbars as your only option, just like in older versions of Max. So basically it really is a space waster, one that ends up being both redundant and practically useless.

Usually:
Ctrl + Click = 0.1 increments
Click = 0.01 increments
Alt + Click = 0.001 incrementsBut it's inconsistent. For example the relax caddy follows the above, but the extrude caddy doesn't.

I find the many hotkeys for the current retopology tool in 3ds Max to be extremely convoluted. They're inconsistent between the different modes too (create in one mode is delete in the other). This makes it very hard to remember and use. Anything better would be welcome.

I've seen this discussed on quite a few forums over the years and wholeheartedly agree. Pretty much 99.9% of the time, when I'm making a selection using the marque or brush, I do NOT want occluded sub-objects (polygonal faces usually) to also be selected. Some call this raycast/raytace selecting I think, and most (all?) of the other 3D apps out there select this way. I'm surprised there aren't more votes for this because it really is a super annoying issue. And yes, a lot of folks do confuse this with "Ignore Backfacing" which is something completely different. We need another check box below that one titled "Ignore Occluded".

I added a "Save File As" button to the quick access toolbar at the top, next to the "Save File" one. This way I can do both. The first overwrites the current file, the second opens a dialog that allows you to change the file name or simply hit the + button found there to incrementally save. It would be nice to move that button to the quick access toolbar itself though AND have a proper icon for it (had to use a generic one for the "Save File As" option which was mildly annoying lol).

Tabbed projects so all of them are in one single running instance of 3ds Max instead of multiple instances for each project? Sounds sensible to me.

I noticed when doing UV seams in another app and then exporting to Max via OBJ, Max would change the seams slightly by adding a few where there shouldn't be any. My guess from testing this is that it judges the file during import and automatically adds seams if the angle is higher than a certain threshold. This is similar to the auto smoothing group threshold you can set when doing that, except there is no such control in Max for UV's or a way to keep it from messing with seams at all. This is a long winded way of saying I agree with this idea and that everything involving seams need to be looked over by the devs.

I'm constantly turning selection brackets off because I too prefer edged faces. Both turned on at the same time can cause minor confusion as well (white lines on white lines).

I find the problem of an overly thin wireframe annoying too. Direct3D helps, but then you lose some of the better attributes Nitrous is capable of. Is there not a way to customize the size/color of vertices and edges under the UI settings so they're easier to both see and click ? If there is, I haven't come across it yet. Topogun's customization menu is a good example. It even lets you have slightly thicker wires and vertices for those that are located on a border so that you know it's a border (useful for loop selections).
