What’s on your top ten list? Add a vote to any idea you also think is important!
HOW TO USE THE FORUM:
- Each user has 20 votes for each forum
- Each idea can have no more than 3 votes by a single user
- If you enter an idea, it will cost you 1 vote – therefore try to make sure the idea doesn’t already exist
- The more precise and detailed a description you give, the more likely your idea will rise higher in the list
- When an idea is implemented, votes are returned to all the users that voted
- User can change their votes at any time
- Admins can move, edit and delete ideas as they see fit to better meet the goals of the forum
- We will flag ideas that are getting our attention as “under review”. Because of limits on what we can say publicly, that is as far as we can go with commenting on a particular idea. If it is “under review” it simply means we’re studying it for possible implementation or gathering data, but there is no commitment to do it.
Remember, we do not release versions on “internet time”. Unlike the web sites this was designed for, our process of releasing functionality is much longer term. So there won’t be a constant churn of ideas being “closed out” by us and votes returned to you. For this tool to map to our process, we will be looking at the data during a short period of the year (3-6 months) and deciding what actions to take after that. Don’t expect to post an idea and a month later for us to respond in some fashion to it. The most likely scenario is that you’ll post an idea and if a lot of other people vote on it, we’ll eventually flag it as “under review” – but that could be 9 months later or longer.
Please treat this as an experiment in working with the community. Even if Uservoice is not the final home for this, we’ll do our best to export all the ideas to whatever future system might take its place. Your voice will persist.
Note: It’s important to realize that these lists are simply raising the quality of the feedback we get from the community. They are not a replacement for how we define the features for any given release. They are valuable input, but beta input, product strategy, focus, innovation and other factors are also important aspects we consider.

Small Annoying Things
This forum is about all the little annoying quirks and problems in 3ds Max that you might have gotten used to over the years but that really should be fixed.
Remember, keep these ideas to tweaks of the workflow rather than large, sweeping changes to the tools. Try to imagine how much effort a programmer has to go into in order to implement your suggestion. Anything requiring major UI changes or new UI dialogs will need to go in another forum.

Parent and Sibling Navigation in SME
As in the Compact Material Editor, there should be navigation buttons to move to the parent or sibling of a particular map. These could be main toolbar buttons, but, initially they could be confined to the Material Parameters window, since that's most likely where you'd be when you want to see a maps parent material/map.

Support for rendering to a renderman compliant renderer
3dsmax has a great many choices when it comes to rendering. Unfortunately the one major rendering solution used in feature film production is not available to us. That would be the renderman protocol. Having the ability to output to this format would allow max greater use in feature film productions, and allow user access to many renderman rendering solutions such as PrMan, 3Delight, and others.
Currently most of the major 3d packages and some smaller ones support rendering to renderman. Its time that max gets back into that game.

Save as Should Have a Stick Option
There should be an option on the save option that you can click so that the version you're saving to sticks. For example, if your working on a model and want to save it as a 2010 file, you should be able to tick a box on any save and have 3ds max save your work from then on for that version.

"Information Center"
When you select an object, the 3ds max interface the lower left corner will display: 1 the Object the Selected
When you edit a polygon, the vertices selected will be displayed in the command bar on the right, such as: 16 Vertices-the SelectedWhy not put this information together? When you carry out an operation, the information center can the results of real-time feedback to the user, like Photoshop! and users do not have to worry about due to a scroll command bar but not the select few vertices.

Improve Mental Ray
MR is a great renderer but unfortunatelly it has flaws.
What i would really want to see improved are:
1. Support render elements for various MR shaders such as sss skin, car paint etc. Currently they seem completely black in the various render elements such as specular, diffuse etc.
2. Improve the SSS skin shader. It has problems when used in a compound material such as multisubobject, blend, shelac etc.
3. Add more render elemetns such as AO, the ability to render the parti volume as an render element etc.

Soft Body dynamics for MassFX
Add soft body dynamics for MassFX. Maybe it will be good if Flex modifier will be upgraded to works with MassFX.

Help/About should list installed HotFixes / ServicePacks
The "Help/About 3dsmax" dialog should list all installed HotFixes / ServicePacks / Product Updates... So it's easy to see, if the last update was installed or not.

Object management functions Similar or Overlap:
Container, Groups, Assemblies, Layer ...able to use the concept of a unified interface to replace, the difference between the switch parameter settings.

When selecting an object will display all the things associated with this object.
When selecting an object will display all the things associated with this object. Include: Container, Groups, Assemblies, maps, modifiers, Materials, bones, Force, Select and Link, Bind to, Wire Parameters to what ... ... and everything!
You can select everything in that list directly, rather than numerous small window to find.

A unified "selection center".
When editing a polygon, there is a set of selection tools. But in the "skin" can no longer use them. I hope the "selection tools" can be use for anything! and have fixed place in the interface.
As long as you want to selecting to something, will immediately find the tools you want to use!3 votes -
Set standard display for material browser to text. Thumbs takes to long to load....!
When loading material libraries it is by standard set to thumbnail view and can take forever to either change to text or to get it all loaded in.
Have it set to text as default.

working mode
have working mode like modelling, rendering, animation ... , if i'm on modelling mode, all tool, ui and shorcut will be tweak for moddeling, and if i'm on animation mode ->tool, ui and shorcut will be tweak for animation

Double Tap Key Binds
If you single tap a key, one action is done.
If you double tap it within a narrow window of time it triggers another action.
This would allow people to double up on custom binds and group similar tasks together.Examples:
- Single Tap: selects the move tool. Double Tap: brings up the Move Type In Transform tool.
- Single Tap: weld. Double Tap: target weld.
- Single Tap: cut. Double Tap: slice.
- Single Tap: selects bridge. Double Tap: Brings up the bridge caddy.

Curve Editor: ability to zoom to selected keys ala Maya
There is no short-cut or menu option to Zoom Extents Selected for keyframes in the Curve Editor. In Maya, you can do this simply by pressing 'F'.
Whiile the Zoom Region tool is useful, it'd be quicker to be able to have the Maya-style focusing, and it would also mimic Max's Zoom Extents Selected viewport functionality.

Curve Editor: ability to select and manipulate Curves ala Maya
Maya allows you to manipulate keyframes much easier in its Graph Editor than Max's Curve Editor.
E.g. if you want to quickly shift the entire curve of an animated track in Max, you have to first select all of the keyframes by drag-selecting them before you can begin moving things around.
In Maya, you can simply click on the curve and begin to move it.

Quick Open Material/Map tool options from navigator.
In material Editor Navigator window. It would be really nice IF I press ctrl, alt, or shift... and click or double click on an element it opens up the material/map options under the nav panel immediately.
Its a bit annoying that I have to navigate my window then click on the panel in the view, while I could do it in a single movement (in cases when I already know which element I wanna open...)

Fix object hiding
3ds max 2012(nitrous mode)
3ds max 2013(nitrous and d3d mode)In these releases hiding objects no longer benefits viewport performance.
What is worse hidden objects completely kill animation playback performance since everything gets reevaluated every single frame whether or not it has anything to do with the animation, is hidden or is disabled.This means having things such as hair & fur for a character in the same file as the character itself (which I'd say is the first instinct of any character artist) is nearly impossible because it is weighing too heavy on these versions of max.
