Virtual Viewport Zoom for Nitrous
The virtual viewport is used to blow up a region of the viewport for aligning geometry with background bitmap for example. I find it really useful and would like it to be supported with newer driver. for now it is only available with old openGL driver.

João Ricardo Ferreira Grilo commented on a merged request: 'Need "virtual viewport " like tool working with nitrous or directx, instead of Open Gl only, or better tool for align geometry to plates.'

I also voted for zooming/panning into a viewport - like you can do in any compositing application.

It is also very very useful for animation! When you want to work on certain details (for example facial animation) with the final camera active, it is very helpful to zoom in and pan temporarily. So 2 votes from me!

OK, I have edited the suggestion and removed the part about lens distortion. Feel free to make a new suggestion for that one.
Others: please reevaluate the suggestion and update your votes as needed

I think the most important point is the first as you suggest, and I think to delete the second.

I see two suggestions at once: a.) give us the ability to zoom into a viewport/background image, and b.) calibrate a camera distortion in order to remove it from the image. It will be unclear which of the two is being voted for. I suggest to keep a.) in this suggestion and make a new one for b.)
