Vector images as textures
Now only bitmap based graphics can be uses as a texture, I think it will be great if we were able to uses vector based graphics as well, just load an .AI of PDF as texture.
This way infinite resolution textures with a low memory footprint will be possible, just like a procedural map, but different.

I think this feature was implemented a long time ago (the time before Autodesk went shopping) with discreet logic's paint and it's plugin for Kinetix' 3dstudio MAX 2.5 or so.. (as far as I remember...) or was it just a link for raster data?

it would be much better to be able to render as a vector....

I've long thought that this would be awesome. Especially if it were more than just basic single vector shape as a map but instead was a sort of composite vector shape with some more advanced features from Illustrator. (e.g. blending modes of individual shapes, stroke and fill parameters, even "art brushes" or "skeletal strokes".) Best option would be a live connection to an .ai file as a map.
