Symmetrical modeling as in ZBrush
The graphite modeling tool "Symmetry tools" is great idea. However it doesnt work properly. Its not as accurate as must be. Make it into a modifier or put it in the edit poly modifier and make it more intuitive.
This would be a great addition to the workflow for morph targets on heads for example.
Look at ZBrush´s symmetrical modeling.

I agree make the symmetry tool a real time modifier; like in Zbrush.

Make it a mode you can enable at any time right in the editable poly options and in the edit poly modifier too. The real time feedback this would give an artist as they model would be most welcome indeed and ZBrush is an excellent example of how it should work. This would be so much better than the symmetry/mirror modifiers and graphite tools.

yes please, a symmetry way of moving vertices without having to change the vertex order, once again like in maya, zbrush etc

Yeah the symmetry function for the Graphite Tools' Shift etc brushes isn't accurate. I've found that the best method currently is to keep the Symmetry Tools panel up, work on one side with the Shift brush, then use the Make Symmetrical buttons to bring back symmetry. It's a fickle process but it usually works.

Baleron, yes I know it's there but I don't want to sculpt. That's all you can with those brushes. I just want to have the option to tick mirror mode or something (like in the Paint options for the paint deform brush) and model normally.
And like I've stated in the original post. The symmetry tools in Graphite modeling Tools isn't good enough. The least intuitive tool ever.

Andreas, the mirror is already there in the brush options. for many years now. The new graphite brushes have it too.I agree though it would be great to have something like reflection (or what is called) in maya. (although it is a pain and quite restricted)

Great idea. This is so useful for games, that I don't know how come Max doesn't have this already years ago.
The symmetry modifier works nice. The problem with it is that you can then only edit half of the mesh. There should really be Symmetry-Mode that you can go into, and any manipulation you do on one side, will be mirrored to the other.

Yes, like that! Just add the mirror section in the paint deform brush options to the edit poly modifier. That would be great as you might want to model in a traditional sense. Selecting a couple of verts and moving them.

That is a nice wish but I guess you have used the Freeform Paint Deform (sculpting tools) of Graphite which work like a charm for that kind of job? Exactly like tweaking facial expressions in mudbox or zbrush with a symmetrical brush. And if you apply an Edit poly on top each time you start a new facial expression, you can use each modifier as a layer to store a different expression or a tweak for a specific one by turning them on\off.

If you collapse a model of a character that has been modelled with a symmetry modifier apllied to it I still want to be able to continue modeling in a symmetrical fashion. The advantage being that the vertex numbers are locked.
Just add a chackbox in the edit poly modifier or something.

modelling characters for morphtargets is painful with the graphite tool symmetry... it just doesnt work... zbrush does this so much better, but it would be great to do a similar function in 3dstudio
