  For those that still want to see selection brackets: J is the default hotkey to toggle them on/off.

  I'm constantly turning selection brackets off because I too prefer edged faces. Both turned on at the same time can cause minor confusion as well (white lines on white lines).

  have show edge faces on section instead!

  selection brackets = off;
  display selected with edged faces = true;
  should be default

  Edged Faces = like in Maya, yes?

  This would prevent me from seeing the normally shaded object without any edges when modeling, for example. I am no fan of the selection brackets, in fact I often turn them off with the 'J' hotkey but 'display selected with edged faces' is a poor alternative IMHO

  so how should people see which object is selected in shaded mode?

  with the display selected with edged faces option (which should also be changed as default = on)
